New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said Friday that he expects to play in preseason games as he works his way back from the knee injury that he suffered in the opening game of last season. "I think I'll play," Brady said, according to a transcript provided by the Patriots. "... I think it's really important for a quarterback to be out there playing. If you're the leader of the offense, you've got to be out there leading in the preseason and in practices. I'm excited for those games because I think we can make improvements in those games." Brady has been practicing with a brace on his surgically repaired left knee. He said he doesn't think about the brace while he's playing and shrugged off the notion that it's restricting him. "Have I gone from slow to slower? That's possible," Brady said. "But that doesn't matter most."

UPDATED (3:53 p.m.)... New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick declined to rule out the possibility Friday of his team signing just-reinstated quarterback Michael Vick. Belichick was asked during a news conference at the Patriots' training camp if he was interested in signing Vick. "You know, I think we have, we would consider... I mean, we're coaching the players that we have on the field right now, so that's who's here," Belichick said. "So, anybody who isn't here, is there potential that they could be here? You know, yeah, there probably is. But right now they're not. "We're coaching the 80 players that are here, so until we get somebody else we're coaching them. If we get somebody else in here, which I'm sure at some point we will, then we'll coach them instead players that are here. So, who all that's gonna be--you know, I mean, right now it's

Rex Ryan, the first-year coach for the New York Jets, on Thursday named Kellen Clemens the team's No. 1 quarterback entering training camp. Ryan put prized rookie Mark Sanchez second on the depth chart and Erik Ainge third. However, Ryan also indicated that there is competition at the position. The Jets traded up to select Sanchez fifth overall in the NFL draft, and some people around the league think it's likely that he'll take over as the club's starter entering the regular season.
