The Miami Dolphins officially declared starting quarterback Chad Pennington out for the remainder of the season and obtained reserve quarterback Tyler Thigpen in a trade Tuesday with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs announced that they'd sent Thigpen to the Dolphins for an undisclosed draft choice next year. The Dolphins confirmed the trade and announced that they'd placed Pennington on the season-ending injured reserve list. ESPN reported that Pennington suffered a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder. He potentially is facing shoulder surgery for what would be the third time since 2005. Other reports, including one by the Associated Press, indicated that Pennington suffered a dislocated shoulder and tests were to determine if there was damage to the rotator cuff.

Owens Faults Media

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens said during a radio interview Monday that he's learned not to allow the media to draw him into controversies. Owens's radio comments came after he gave a series of terse answers during a postgame news conference Sunday, refusing to say what he'd thought of the Bills' play-calling or the decision-making of quarterback Trent Edwards. Owens was held without a catch in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. "It really just shows you the angle that the media has taken all these years," Owens told Sporting News Radio, according to an account of the interview in the Buffalo News. "Over the years, I've always kind of spoken openly about whatever is being asked with my answers, so the last four or five years I've kind of noticed that and tried taking some steps to prevent some of those things from happening. When Mangini picked Quinn over Anderson as the club's starter entering the season, he attempted to keep the choice under wraps for competitive reasons. But it didn't stay secret for as long as Mangini had hoped, being revealed by media reports and a congratulatory message to Quinn on Twitter by Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens.

The attorney, John McGuinn, told the NFL Network he doesn't know if Cable will face charges. Cable has denied that any punches were thrown, and has said that nothing happened. There also was a report at the time that Cable intervened in an argument between Hanson and another Raiders assistant and knocked over a chair on which Hanson was sitting, and Hanson was injured when he struck his face on a cabinet during his fall.
