Warner listed as questionable

Saturday, November 28th, 2009
Quarterback Kurt Warner was listed as questionable on the Arizona Cardinals' official injury report. Warner practiced all week after suffering a concussion last Sunday. He passed neurological tests Tuesday, according to the Cardinals. Backup Matt Leinart would be in line to start if Warner doesn't play.

Schwartz: No second thoughts on Stafford

Saturday, November 28th, 2009
Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford threw four interceptions in the Detroit Lions' loss on Thanksgiving while playing with a separated left shoulder. Stafford had been listed as doubtful for the game even through the injury was to his non-throwing shoulder. Coach Jim Schwartz didn't second-guess himself for allowing Stafford to play. "No second thoughts at all," Schwartz said Friday, according to the Associated Press. "Him throwing the interceptions had nothing to do with his shoulder."

Bell Tolls: Clutch, aggressive Jaguars playing way into race

Friday, November 27th, 2009
With more than a month of a stretch run left in the regular season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have already exceeded their victory total from last season with a hot streak that has them positioned in the thick of the playoff race. The Jaguars (6-4), at San Francisco on Sunday, have won three consecutive games and four of their past five. Last year, they were a deflated 5-11.

Benson set to return for Bengals

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Tailback Cedric Benson participated in the Cincinnati Bengals' practice Friday and could return to the lineup this weekend. He missed last Sunday's loss to the Oakland Raiders because of a hip injury. "I thought he was close to being able to play last week and obviously he's ready to play now," Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis said, according to the team's Web site. "I'll make a decision. I don't have any doubts that he's ready to play. Based on what he's done the last three days, I would say that he's probably healed pretty well."

Chris Polian named Colts’ GM

Friday, November 27th, 2009
The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday that they'd promoted Chris Polian to vice president and general manager. Polian, the son of team president Bill Polian, had been the Colts' vice president of football operations. "Chris has been involved in every aspect of our football operations for the past 12 years," Colts owner Jim Irsay said in a written statement. "His direct contributions are part of the reasons why the Colts have been among the league's top teams for an extended period of time. Chris is a very talented individual who has worked his way through the ranks, and we are pleased to have him serve in this position. "Historically, the Colts have been an organization to promote internally, and I feel this will allow the club the best opportunity to continue competing at the level we have sustained for the past few seasons." Chris Polian joined the Colts in 1998

Roethlisberger plans to play

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said Thursday he plans to be in the Pittsburgh Steelers' lineup for Sunday night's game at Baltimore. Roethlisberger suffered a concussion during last Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. According to the Steelers, he passed neurological tests Monday. "It's part of the nature of the beast of playing this game," Roethlisberger said Thursday, according to the AP. "It's a violent, physical contact sport and there's a chance you're going to get hit. You guys don't talk about the bruises we have all over our body. If I showed you a bruise on my shoulder and a bruise on my shin, it wouldn't get talked about as much. It's a violent sport we play."

Expletive by McDaniels aired

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Josh McDaniels, the rookie head coach for the Denver Broncos, is demonstrating plenty of exuberance on the sideline during Thursday night's game against the New York Giants--a little too much for the NFL Network, in fact. An expletive used by McDaniels during a sideline lecture of his players was picked up by the league-owned television channel during its broadcast of the game. Viewers could hear the expletive yelled by McDaniels at his players on the sideline after the Broncos committed three false start penalties and had to settle for a field goal following a first-and-goal opportunity. The NFL Network issued an on-air apology after returning from a commercial. The field goal gave the Broncos, who are trying to end a four-game losing streak, a 6-0 lead. They added a touchdown by rookie tailback Knowshon Moreno soon thereafter and lead the Giants, 13-0, in the second quarter.

Steelers study QB options

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Free agent quarterbacks Todd Bouman and Patrick Ramsey met with Pittsburgh Steelers officials, according to multiple reports. It's not clear if the Steelers have immediate plans to add an experienced quarterback. Their backup, Charlie Batch, underwent surgery Wednesday for a broken wrist. Coach Mike Tomlin said earlier in the week that Batch was expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks and the Steelers would not immediately place him on the season-ending injured reserve list, pending the outcome of the surgery. Starter Ben Roethlisberger suffered a concussion last week but Tomlin has said that Roethlisberger, barring a setback, could play Sunday night at Baltimore. Dennis Dixon, who has thrown one regular season pass in the NFL, has replaced Batch as Roethlisberger's backup.

It previously had been reported that the band would be the halftime entertainment at the game, but that wasn't officially confirmed until halftime of the Raiders-Cowboys game. The Super Bowl is to be played on Feb. 7 in South Florida. CBS is televising the game.
