MIAMI GARDENS--Pro Bowl players on the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints participated in pregame activities at Sunday night's Pro Bowl at Sun Life Stadium. Quarterbacks Peyton Manning of the Colts and Drew Brees of the Saints were among the players on the two Super Bowl teams who attended the game but didn't play. The league required the Pro Bowl players on the Super Bowl teams to travel to South Florida on Sunday and be on hand. One of the Colts' Pro Bowlers, defensive end Dwight Freeney, was not at the Pro Bowl, being excused by the league to receive treatment for an ankle injury. The Colts and Saints players were scheduled to stay here overnight and be joined Monday by their teams. MIAMI GARDENS--The NFL has named a coaching award after former Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement Sunday before the Pro Bowl was played here at Sun Life Stadium. The award will be given annually to a coach for "excellence and integrity" on and off the field, Goodell said. "To a large extent, the popularity of our game is a result of changes Coach Shula made, on and off the field," said Goodell, speaking at a ceremony at which the Dolphins unveiled a statue of Shula outside their new offices at the stadium. Shula said after the ceremony that the naming of the league-wide award for him had come as a surprise. "I didn't know about it," Shula said. "Any time you have your name on an award, it's pretty special. It means a lot because it's the coaching profession. I'm happy the award

FT. LAUDERDALE--Super Bowl week begins in South Florida with Sunday night's Pro Bowl. Players from both the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints are scheduled to be on hand and participate in pregame activities at the Pro Bowl. However, the Colts and Saints don't arrive in the Miami area until Monday. Colts officials said last week they hadn't decided if their Pro Bowl players, including quarterback Peyton Manning, would return to Indianapolis on Sunday night and travel back to Florida on Monday with their teammates. Club president Bill Polian had criticized the league's requirement that the Pro Bowl players from the Super Bowl teams be on hand in Miami for the Pro Bowl ceremonies. But Colts owner Jim Irsay said late in the week that the team would comply with league guidelines on the matter. The Saints are scheduled to arrive at the Miami airport around 11:45 a.m. Monday,

Jim Zorn has agreed to become the Baltimore Ravens' quarterbacks coach, the Ravens announced Saturday. Zorn, fired after the season as head coach of the Washington Redskins, replaces Hue Jackson, who left the Ravens to become the offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders. "Jim played successfully in the NFL for a long time," Ravens Coach John Harbaugh said in a written statement. "He knows what quarterbacks go through in this league. He has been a quarterbacks coach and a head coach, and he is familiar with our offense. That's a great résumé. "I've gotten to know Jim for the last couple of years, and I have been impressed with him as a person. He's a good, decent man, and he will be an excellent addition to the Ravens. This is an exciting addition to our staff." Zorn was the quarterbacks coach of the Seattle Seahawks before being hired by

New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has created the first mini-controversy of this Super Bowl, saying that Saints defenders will have to make their hits count on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning when they get the chance. "You know this guy [Manning] has a great clock in his head," Williams told Tennessee radio station WGFX, according to the Associated Press. "The big thing is he throws the ball so early that we are going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him. When we do get to him, we are going to make sure to have a couple of remember-me shots on him when we get there." The Colts are declining to engage in a public war of words with Williams. "We hear it all the time," guard Ryan Lilja said, according to the AP. "The teams in our division go out

The NFL fined New Orleans Saints defensive end Bobby McCray $20,000 for two hits on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre during last Sunday's NFC championship game, according to the league's Web site. McCray was penalized for one of the hits, which came after Favre handed off the ball on a running play. The other play, according to the NFL's web site, was a low hit on which Favre suffered an ankle injury. McCray was not penalized on that play but Mike Pereira, the NFL's vice president of officiating, said this week that the hit should have produced a 15-yard personal foul. The penalty, if called, would have nullified an interception that Favre threw on the play. Favre injured his left ankle on McCray's low hit but returned to the game, which the Saints won in overtime.
