According to multiple reports, free agent tailback LaDainian Tomlinson is scheduled to visit the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. The former league most valuable player was released by the San Diego Chargers. In Minnesota, he could back up Adrian Peterson. The Vikings lost their backup tailback when Chester Taylor signed with the Chicago Bears. Tomlinson's visit was first reported by Sports Illustrated.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed tailback Thomas Jones, the team announced. Jones was an unrestricted free agent after being released by the New York Jets. He has had five straight seasons with at least 1,100 rushing yards. Jones ran for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns last season for the Jets.

Actor Robert De Niro is to play Vince Lombardi in a movie about the legendary Green Bay Packers coach, ESPN announced Tuesday. The movie, "Lombardi," is being developed by ESPN Films, the NFL and Andell Entertainment and is slated to be released in theaters in early 2012 on the weekend between the two conference championship games and the Super Bowl, according to the network's announcement. According to the announcement, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth is involved with the project and the process of choosing a director is under way. "Having an icon portray an icon on film is amazing, and with a writer as talented as Eric working on the script, the results could be magical for NFL fans," Ron Semiao, a senior vice president of ESPN Films-motion pictures, said in a written statement. The Cleveland Browns released former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson. The team made the announcement Tuesday. "I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years," Browns Coach Eric Mangini said a written statement. "He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future." The move comes after the Browns traded for Seattle Seahawks quarterback and wide receiver Seneca Wallace. The club also still has former first-round draft choice Brady Quinn at the position.

Jim Sorgi has gone from backing up one Manning to backing up another. The New York Giants signed Sorgi on Tuesday, the team announced. The veteran quarterback is to compete with Rhett Bomar to back up the Giants' starter, Eli Manning. Sorgi had been released by the Indianapolis Colts after six seasons as Peyton Manning's backup. "Both are elite players," Sorgi said, according to the Giants' Web site. "I had a great time working with Peyton, and I learned a lot, obviously. The experience was invaluable as far as my development as a professional. Wide receiver Terrell Owens reportedly is scheduled to meet with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday. According to the team's Web site, it is believed that Owens is not scheduled to arrive in Cincinnati until late in the day but he is to meet with some of the club's coaches for dinner. Owens is an unrestricted free agent after spending one season with the Buffalo Bills, who declined to try to re-sign him. Agent Drew Rosenhaus previously said it was possible that Owens would sign with the Bengals to play alongside wideout Chad Ochocinco. The Bengals reportedly are hosting another free agent wide receiver, Antonio Bryant, on a visit Tuesday.

There are several reports that free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens is to visit the Cincinnati Bengals in the coming days, perhaps as soon as Tuesday. The Bengals' Web site reported that the visit could happen Tuesday but that had not been firmly scheduled by the team as of Monday night. Owens's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has said it's possible that Owens will sign with the Bengals. Owens spent last season with the Buffalo Bills.

The Oakland Raiders released wide receiver Javon Walker and defensive end Greg Ellis. The team listed the moves on the transactions section of its Web site. Walker had only 15 catches in two seasons with the Raiders after being signed to a six-year, $55 million contract as a free agent. Ellis played one season for the Raiders and had seven sacks in 14 games. The moves come after the club released veteran running back Justin Fargas over the weekend.

According to multiple reports, the Cleveland Browns obtained Seneca Wallace, a quarterback and wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, in a trade Monday. Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren is now the president of the Browns. ESPN reported that the Seahawks are to receive an undisclosed draft choice in 2011 in the deal.

The St. Louis Rams signed defensive tackle Fred Robbins, the club announced. Robbins was an unrestricted free agent. He'd spent the last six seasons with the New York Giants. The deal reunites him with Rams Coach Steve Spagnuolo, formerly the Giants' defensive coordinator. "I am very happy we were able to get this deal done with Fred," Spagnuolo said, according to the Rams' Web site. "He is a player I am familiar with and he is a veteran who has been very productive on some very good defenses. He will add leadership to our defense and depth to the defensive tackle position."
