Reports: Jets poised to release RB Jones

INDIANAPOLIS--According to multiple reports, the New York Jets don't plan to pay a $3 million roster bonus that's due to tailback Thomas Jones in his contract and likely will release him. According to the reports, it is unlikely that the two sides will agree to a restructured contract to keep the veteran running back with the team. He is to have a $2.8 million salary next season in addition to his roster bonus. Jones ran for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns this past season. He has rushed for 9,217 yards and 62 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons for the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and Jets. Jones has topped 1,100 rushing yards in each of the last five seasons after failing to reach 1,000 yards in any of his first five seasons. He turns 32 in August.
