Warner announces retirement

UPDATED (3:42 p.m.)... Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner announced his retirement Friday. "It's been 12 unbelievable years, 12 of the best years of my life," Warner said at a news conference. "But... I'm excited about what lies ahead of me." Warner, who turns 39 in June, steps away from the sport after a 12-year NFL career in which he improbably became one of the most prolific passers in league history and led two franchises, the St. Louis Rams and the Cardinals, to Super Bowl appearances. Warner played well this season, throwing for 3,753 yards and 26 touchdowns as the Cardinals won the NFC West and beat the Green Bay Packers, 51-45, in overtime in the highest-scoring postseason game in league history.
